About us...

An association of like minded people  was formed in January 2002 by a small group of committed cat lovers. This resulted in a proper registered Charity  in March 2003. Montgomeryshire Cat Rescue was born. The group has developed and evolved over the years into an experienced and skilled compassionate group of volunteers. The more we see the more we realise we have only scratched the surface.

The last of the founding trustees retired early 2007 and the Charity was left in the hands of the next generation.

We are dependent on donations and grant applications which enable us to continue our work. The support of the public never fails to amaze us. From generous cash donations to moral and physical support, through to skills of fabrication to inspired ideas. This web site being an important window to the world.

There are food donation points at Welshpool and Churchstoke supermarkets where the generosity of shoppers is astounding. Not only tins of cat food purposely purchased but flavours & makes not liked by their own moggies! Saucers and toys that have obviously been bought for much loved pets, who are no longer with us, also are more than gratefully received. A universal thank you is extended to all the unknown and unseen donors.

We deal with a variety of cat problems, ranging from taking in unwanted cats and kittens to trapping feral colonies in factories and on farms in isolated rural areas. The work is carried out mainly through Montgomeryshire but we do help people from surrounding counties.

Since 2008 we have been supported by the National Cat Centre of Cats Protection with neutering assistance. This has made a great difference to our impact on problems in our area. The Animal Welfare Act of 2006 suggested consideration of neutering; our view is that it is essential and is an integral part of our Adoption Agreement with new owners of kittens. Adults are retained with us until they are neutered. It is in the interest of the health & welfare of the cat.

Have you skills that you are willing to offer. You don’t even have to like cats. As a small local Charity we are always in need of help on many fronts. Advertising, research, posters, newsletter ….as many skill sets as exist in the world that we live in.
